Fake currency racket busted in Mahe; five held


Sunday, June 10, 2012: The Puducherry police busted a currency racket that had links in Oman following the arrest of a five people at Mahe, and the seizure of fake currency with a face value of Rs 1.81 lakh.
Police sources said Feroz, 25, hailing from Peringadi, had tendered Rs 1,000 at a petrol station in Mahe on Friday to purchase fuel.
The petrol station manager grew suspicious about the genuineness of the currency and lodged a complaint with the Mahe police.
Feroz was interrogated and was arrested. Based on information provided by him, the police search the home of Tajudeen, 40, in nearby Nalavizhi and seized fake currency notes to the tune of `65,000 from the bedroom. The fake notes were in the denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500.
