Photos of political leaders from jails being removed


KANNUR: The work on removing the display of photographs of various political leaders from jails including Kannur Central Jail has started. The photos of political leaders dead and alive are being removed in the first phase. Decision on removing the photos of religious leaders will be considered later. If necessary, the photos will be shifted to the concerned worship places.


There are almost 500 photos in various jails of the state. In Kannur jail alone, there are 350 photos. After removing the photos, the walls would be whitewashed on top of pictures drawn.


Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radjakrishnan, who visited the Kannur Central Jail, had directed to remove the photos from there. The order directing to remove the photos was released on Friday.
