Strict action against four for attacking couple

KANNUR: Kannur district Police Chief Rahul R Nair has said stringent actions would be taken against miscreants who attacked a young couple at Kambil near Mayyil in the guise of so called 'moral policing'. Nair said police has already registered a case under section 308, against this attack and identified the gang, including Abdulla and Nowshad of Kambil.

The couple filed a complaint about the moral police attack against them. They also filed a complaint in this regard to State Human Rights Commission and Vanitha Cell. A four-member gang attacked K P Noushad (30) a medical representative of Onjiyam near Vadakara and his five-month pregnant wife K P Hafsath(23), a staff nurse of a private hospital, of Kandakai near Mayyil at Kambil town. Nair also said the search was on by Mayyil Police to nab the accused. The couple was returning from a private hospital at Kambil. Nowshad went to an ATM counter, while his wife Hafsath was standing in a bus stop. When the man called up his wife on her mobile the gang suspected them to be lovers of communities and attacked them. Later some of the locals recognised them and rushed them to Mayyil Health Centre. Nair said this is third reported moral policing case in this district.
