Government pursuing anti-people policies, says Kodiyeri

CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the government is pursuing anti-people policies by hiking the power tariff, planning to implement contributory pension and raising the retirement age.


Speaking at the public meeting held in connection with the 31st state conference of the SFI at Fort Maidan here on Thursday, Kodiyeri said the hike in power tariff would result in an all-round price rise.


The UDF Government, which is reinvestigating the cases against CPM leaders based on the statements of the “so called” witnesses, should disclose whether it would reprobe the Azhikodan murder case also.



Kodiyeri said Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, who was the then leader of the Sangatna Congress, had at that time said that there was suspicion that the then Home Minister K Karunakaran could have been involved in the Azhikodan Raghavan case.


Kodiyeri also questioned the government for not charging a case against K Sudhakaran MP based on the deposition of his driver and Youth Congress activist Prasanth Babu in the Naalpadi Vasu murder case.


The government is following the policy of protecting the culprits when they are from the UDF camp. The UDF and the Congress are trying to weaken the CPM by foisting fake cases against its activists, he said.


“But, the Left parties and the CPM have come unscathed from even more trying situations in the past,” he said.


Those who had protected the murderers of SFI activist Aneesh Raj were now trying to link the CPM with the T P Chandrasekharan murder, in which it was not involved, Kodiyeri said.


SFI state president K V Sumesh presided over the meet. All-India general secretary Ritubratha Banerjee, MPs M B Rajesh and P K Biju and A K Balan MLA were present at the function.


Earlier, SFI activists took out a rally from Victoria College to the Fort Maidan as part of the conference.
