Hike in power tariff


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A hike in the tariff of electricity has been announced in an order from the Electricity Regulatory Authority which is to be implemented with effect from July 1.


The new rates are as follows:


For consumption of 0-40 units, the rate is fixed as Rs. 1.50. and for 41-80 units, the rate is Rs.  1.90.  For consumption of units in bands of 81-120, 121-150, 151-200, 201-300 and 301-500, the rates are 2.20, 2.40, 3.10, 3.50 and 4.60 respectively.


Though the board had suggested Rs.5.98 per unit for consumption above 500 units, the Electricity Regulatory Commission fixed the flat rate as Rs.6.50 per unit.



The fixed charge for single phase connection and three face connection has been increased to Rs.20 and Rs.60 respectively.


For commercial connections whose consumptions above 3000 units, the rate is Rs.4.10.


The tariff of power given to street lights is also increased.


There had not been any price hike for power in the state for a decade.


The state expects an additional income of around Rs.1670 crore from the hike.
