Auto driver fractures hands of Kerala Kaumudi journalist

KOCHI: An auto driver fractured both the hands of a journalist of Kerala Kaumudi daily for questioning the excess fare charged.  Lenin, working as a sub-editor in the Kochi unit of the daily, was injured in the attack. The police took n into custody Murali (40), the auto driver, in connection with the incident. Lenin is undergoing treatment at the Medical Trust Hospital in the city.

Lenin and his friend P B Praveen Kumar, working as system supervisor in the daily, caught an auto after duty last night. The auto driver charged Rs 40 but Lenin and his friend were willing to pay only Rs 30. The two got into the auto and the driver kept on blabbering about the diesel charge. The two got down midway and said a complaint will be lodged. Soon the drive took a lever from the auto and attacked them with it.

Murali was taken into custody within hours. The police had recently taken stringent action against auto drivers for charging excess fares.
