If Ganesh resigns, Congress may field its candidate

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It looks like Kerala Congress (B) chairman Balakrishna Pillai’s clamour for making his son K B Ganesh Kumar a minister will not be heeded. His statements with overtones of ‘threat against the government’ also seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

Now, the opinion that is gaining momentum within the Congress party is, if Ganesh Kumar steps down as MLA, the party should field its own candidate in his place in Pathanapuram. The leaders also feel that it is not necessary to succumb to Pillai’s threat that he would reveal Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair’s statements against certain persons in the UDF. Pillai’s threatening statements have been annoying  several UDF leaders for some time now.

In the last UDF meeting, Pillai had warned, “if Ganesh is not made the minister by May 31, repercussions will be damaging and he (Ganesh) will resign his MLA post”.

Meanwhile, the Congress feel that Ganesh’s resignation, if it happens, will not be a threat to the UDF government as RSP has joined the Front and R Selvaraj from CPM also joined the Congress, giving the government the required number in the assembly.
