Centre can take decision on Aranmula issue: Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The centre can take their own decision on the Aranmula Airport issue, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Briefing reporters after the weekly cabinet meet, he said sanction for the project was given by the former LDF government.

The government had earlier mentioned their stand on the Madhav Gadgil and Kasturirangan report on the protection of Western Ghats. The government is not against the protection of environment but it should be sheltered without neglecting the people, he said.

Chandy said that he is not against the opening of the branches of Prime Minister’s office in states. The government is also not against the idea of the new Prime Minister.

When such offices are commenced in states, the Prime Minister should then explain in which way it should function. I do not think going to Delhi to get things done for the state is so difficult, he said.

I’ll be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 2 as part of courtesy. Development things of the state will be discussed but detailed talks will be held later.

Other cabinet decisions are a temple police station in Guruvayur will be granted,  trawling is banned from June 15-31, moratorium of agricultural debts extended till February 15, 17.5 cents allotted to the Hanuman Kovil Public Trust in Ernakulam,
78 lecturer posts will be created in colleges of Kondotty, Koduvally, Mankada, Balusseri, Chelakkara and Thrithala, posts in colleges of Thalassery, Payyanur, Kattakada and Neyyatinkara were not granted due to some technical reasons and the chief minister has been entrusted for it.
