The incident occurred at 5.30 pm on Friday. The children were on their way to the top floor in the lift, when electricity went off. The lift got stuck. Though hospital authorities were informed hearing their cries, they said the man operating the generator was absent.
Hearing the news, natives, mediapersons and social activists rushed to the spot and informed the police and fireforce. Police and fireforce saved the children after breaking open the door.
The hospital authorities were not present when all these happened. No doctors or nurses came to offer help after the children were taken out of the lift or when Safiya collapsed. This led to huge protests.
