Massive fire breaks out at Paragon footwear factory in Bangalore

Bangalore: Elastrex Polymers Pvt Ltd (shoe division)—makers of the Paragon footwear brand—in Peenya Industrial Estate IV Phase turned into a towering inferno as a massive fire broke out and engulfed the factory on Friday. But no one was injured, a fire brigade spokesperson said.

'There was no one inside the factory. We deployed 40 fire tenders to douse the fire,' the spokesperson told reporters.

The fire, cause of which was being ascertained, broke out around 3 pm, he said. The industrial estate is about 20 km from city centre.

Factory workers, who noticed the fire on the first floor of the three-storey building, turned out to be the saviours. There were no casualties and workers were not injured.

The factory, which houses a finished goods storage unit, production unit and under-process goods unit, had stored excess amount of PVC shoe material. Also, a diesel tanker burst into flames, further contributing to the raging fire.

It took more than seven hours to douse the flames, and what remains of the factory are its charred remains. There's a high probability that the building may collapse.
