VS returns without visiting Kudankulam


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan returned without visiting Kudankulam after the Tamil Nadu police stopped him at Kaliyakkavila. He decided to visit Kudankulam to express solidarity with the agitators waging a war against the nuclear power plant project.

He stuck to his plan to visit Kudankulam after defying both his party’s directive and a request from the state home department. VS said that he is leaving the place in view of law and order issues and is unhappy for not visiting the place.

VS, who left the Cantonment House at 9.30 am in his official car reached Kaliyakkavila by 10.25 am. The Tamil Nadu police requested the leader not to visit the place due to law and order situation.

The crowd shouted slogans in favour of the leader. Talking to reporters here, VS said that he decided to visit the place to express solidarity to the team led by S P Udaya Kumar, who has been protesting for the past 400 days. My party withdrew support from the UPA Government when India and US signed the nuclear deal.
