THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The RTI records specify that there are no written complaints against DGP Jacob Thomas during his tenure as the chief of fire force. However, only oral complaints were there- was the reply given to right to information activist Binu from the office of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had earlier stated that complaints were lodged against Jacob Thomas and that is why he is being removed from the chief of fire force. However, it has been proved now that he was removed from the post based on oral complaints. He was removed from the post and appointed as the managing director of police housing construction as part of action taken on the complaint. The circular of Thomas curbing vehicles of fire force given for personal purposes had sparked a controversy.
When a rule exists that action should not be taken against officials from SI level to others without any written complaint, the government’s action had led to debates. Thomas took charge as the managing director of Police Construction Corporation on Monday.
