Bullet fired at excise jeep, claim officials

Excise officials claimed that a bullet was fired at their jeep at Container Road in the Mulavukadu police station limits on Saturday.

Even though the police and ballistic experts examined the jeep and the spot, nothing more  than a minute mark on the vehicle’s windshield could be traced. Later, a ballistic expert collected samples from the vehicle to examine them at the police chemical laboratory.

“We have examined the spot and it’s yet to be confirmed whether any bullet was actually fired. It can be done only after the laboratory test,” Sunil Jacob, Ernkulam Assistant Commissioner, said.

According to the Excise officials, the jeep was coming from Kalamassery and there were three officials including the driver in it.

“A white Scorpio coming from the opposite side fired a bullet at us. We suddenly  stopped the jeep, but couldn’t chase the other vehicle. The jeep contained samples of the spirit caught from  Edappally the other day. The officials were bringing the samples to the Kochi Excise Office after examining it at a laboratory in Thrissur. A clear picture will emerge only after the police investigation,” an Excise official said.
