THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the unprecedented rise in the prices of vegetables, rice and other essential commodities, the state government has initiated strong measures to bring down the prices in open market. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said 26 outlets by Civil Supplies Corporation, 42 by Horticulture Corporation in collaboration with Civil Supplies Corporation and 98 by Horticulture Corporation alone have been started to contain the price rise of vegetables in the state. Horticulture Corporation would start four mobile units in the capital, he added. The Consumer Fed and the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion council would start 154 and 27 outlets respectively in the state. This process would continue till the period of Onam and Ramzan. In a step to strengthen the market intervention Consumer Fed would start 100 outlets and 59 mobile units. Vegetables would also be distributed through seven boats of Consumer Fed. Five new outlets would be started by Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council, he added.
