Labourers start indefinite strike in Aralam Farm

KANNUR: Labourers at Aralam farm have started indefinite strike, demanding hike in salary and bonus. They were reportedly forced to strike work after talks held between labour union leaders and labour commissioner failed. Adivasi Gotra Mahasabha has also declared their support to the strike being held under the aegis of Trade Unions.

Currently, the workers are given wages as per the 2004 contract. Though several talks regarding salary revision were held earlier in the presence of ministers, nothing concrete had emerged. Discussions were also held with the chief minister in June, but in vain. The workers later alleged that the principle secretary and the finance department had come in the way of salary revision.
