Care Your Heart scheme will be implemented: Siva Kumar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Health Minister V S Sivakumar has said that a special work project titled ‘Care Your Heart’ will be implemented in State schools in order to create awareness on heart diseases. Heart Clubs will also be started in schools as a part of LEAP (Life-care Education Awareness Programme).   

The minister was speaking at the state-level inauguration of World Health Day programmes in Thiruvananthapuram VJT hall on Tuesday.

“An awareness programme titled Art For Heart will be organised in schools utilising the capabilities of students with artistic talents and using the tools of social media. In order to encourage students to do regular physical exercises, a walk way named Good Morning will be built at Shankumugham,” he informed.   

The minister said as part of expanding the cardiology department in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, most modern Cathlab will be established at an expense of Rs Five core. “The third storey of the six-storey multi-speciality block that will become operational from December will be allotted for cardiology. The fourth floor will be set apart as Cardiac surgery unit. Formalities to begin a heart transplantation unit have been completed. The cardiology unit of Kottayam Medical College will be upgraded to Regional Heart Institute,” he said.
