THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fire and Rescue Services DGP Jacob Thomas has expressed opposition over his removal as Fire force chief. He has been transferred to the post of Housing Society chief. Jacob later said that his current position was the one usually given to personnel with ADGP ranking and the change had annoyed him.
“Though the government order officially announcing the change has not reached me, I shall give a reply once I get it, “he said, adding that he had stood only for the safety and security of the people.
The speculation is that Flat owners’ disgruntlement is behind the transfer of the DGP. Jacob’s stand was that flat owners should strictly abide by fire safety rules. This had not reportedly gone down well with many ministers,
The decision to remove him was taken in the cabinet meeting held yesterday. Ministers including Urban development Minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali had openly said that it was difficult to cooperate with Jacob’s way of functioning.
