Suburban train service in Thiruvananthapuram

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said a suburban train service project would be executed in the capital city. The project would be similar to the Bengaluru model. Will hold talks with Kerala on it. The minister announced the project while presenting the budget.

Kerala had informed to bear half the expense for the formation of a special purpose vehicle for the project. As a new railway line is not practical in Kerala for the suburban service like Chennai and Mumbai cites, memu trains will run after arranging automatic signaling facility in the existing double line.

The Chenganoor railway station would be renovated as Sabarimala is a pilgrimage station. More facilities would be arranged for Sabarimala devotees. The travelling time from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi would be reduced by eight hours, he said.
