Reconstruction of Kalmandapam to be completed in time-bound manner

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The meeting held by Conservation committee at Ramanamatom on Thursday has recommended that the reconstruction of kalmandapam (stone platform) at the Padmatheertham pond be completed soon in a time-bound manner. The meeting also evaluated that there was no flaw in the demolition of the kalmandapam.

“The construction should be completed within 30 days under the direction of construction committee which should have representation from Archaeological department. The archaeological department should also oversee the construction. Any change in the construction plans should have the nod of Conservation Committee,” the meeting recommended.

The district collector is the chief of Construction committee.

The Executive officer handed over the detailed project report on reconstruction of the kalmandapam and cleaning of the pond to Conservation Committee.   

The meeting evaluated that the campaign that Kalmandapam was demolished in the night was not based on facts. The demolition started at around 4 in the evening and the CCTV footages showing this was exhibited during the meeting.   

The stone pillars were removed using expert workers from Myladi. Not only that, all stones removed from the mandapam are safely stored on the premises.

The picture of some stones of the kalmandapam which were about to fall apart was also exhibited during the meeting.
Meanwhile, Adithya Varma, a representative of royal palace, remarked that it was essential to properly maintain the Kalmandapam and the failure on the persons concerned to inform the Palace and the public was a mistake.
