Govt official fails to turn up to receive soldier's body

NEW DELHI: No one from the side of Kerala government went to receive the mortal remains of Malayali soldier and Kollam native Sudheesh, who was killed in an avalanche on the Siachen glacier in Jammu and Kashmir on February 3.

Resident Commissioners of respective states are supposed to be present at the airport to receive bodies. All commissioners except the one from Kerala had gone to the airport  

Subedar T T Nagesh (Karnataka), Havildar M Ezhumalai (Tamil Nadu), Lance Havildar S Kumar (TN). Sepoys P N Mahesh (Karnataka), Ganeshan, Ramamoorthy (Tamil Nadu), Mushtaq Ahammed and Nursing assistant Surya Vamsi (Maharashtra) are the army officials who were killed in the mishap.

From Leh the bodies were flown to Delhi army headquarters today morning. The absence of the Commissioner at that time have given room for criticism.

The body will be received by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, army officials and Sudheesh’s close relatives in Thiruvananthapuram in the afternoon and it will be kept at Pangode military camp. The body will be later taken to Mandrothu Government L P School, (Kollam Kundara) where he had his schooling. It will be then placed at the school ground for the public to pay homage.

The cremation will be held with full state honour at his house premise.
