Journalist assaulted


KOCHI: The Eloor police have launched a probe into the alleged assault of a journalist working with a vernacular daily by two men at Kalamassery. S Sreejith, reporter of Janmabhumi daily was attacked by motorcycle borne men on Monday evening. The incident took place at around 7 pm on Monday when Sreejith was travelling on Kalamassery-Manjummel road on a motorcycle along with another person. As per the complaint, two men who came on a two-wheeler blocked his way, punched him on the face after verifying his whereabouts and left the scene.

The incident is regarded as the latest in a series of attacks by goons against residents of Vidakkuzha near Kalamassery. Recently, a resident from the locality was attacked by the crew of a septic tank cleaning truck when he questioned them for disposing the waste in open space. A couple was also assaulted by unidentified men after they spoke to a news channel on unauthorised use of heavy duty vehicles by a company at Vidakkuzha on narrow roads.
