KOCHI: Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph will not appear in the Kerala High Court in the criminal contempt case initiated by the latter for his derogatory remarks against a sitting judge of the court through social media. An apology for his statement was offered in the court by his advocate. The minister was asked to appear in person on the complaint of V Sivankutty MLA based on Joseph’s statement criticizing Justice Alexander Thomas in the Facebook.
However, the minister’s advocate filed a plea in the court stating that the former cannot appear in person as the assembly session is on. The minister has requested to exempt him from further procedures in the wake of the apology tendered.
K C Joseph had criticized Justice Thomas who observed that functioning of the Advocate General’s office in the State was not efficient, and that it needed to be recouped. Joseph had written on his Facebook page that if the antecedents of the persons who made the comments are examined, there can be no surprise that the ‘jackal who fell in the indigo dye howls’, and he cannot be blamed.
