Online sex racket: Bail granted to Rahul, Reshmi

KOCHI: Online sex racket case accused Rahul Pasupalan and his wife Reshmi R Nair were granted bail on Wednesday. The high court ordered the bail with strict conditions. Justice Sunil Thomas granted bail as the investigation team had failed to submit the final report regarding the case within the stipulated time.

Rahul and Reshmi were arrested on November 18 in the case in which both allegedly indulged in flesh trade by luring customers with posts of nude photos of girls including minor girls on a website.

In criminal cases, the law says that the accused can be given bail, if the investigators fail to submit final report in the case within 90 days following the arrest. In the case, Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police were not able to file a final report against the accused.

It was under this circumstance Rahul and Reshmi were granted bail. According to the bail conditions, they had to furnish a bond of Rs 75000 and two sureties. The bail conditions also prevented them from propagating comments or website posts containing sexually explicit materials. They should surrender their passports and be present before the investigators every Monday and Saturday. They should not go out of the State unless it was for judicial purpose. They were also instructed not to influence witnesses in the case or destroy evidence.
