Chandy escapes unhurt after car falls into drain

KOTTAYAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy escaped unhurt when his official vehicle met with an accident Sunday early morning. His gunman Ashok sustained some minor injuries.  

The accident happened at Kanakkari near Ettumanoor early this morning at 2.30 am when the chief minister was returning to Kottayam from Malappuram. The vehicle skidded and overturned to a drain and then stopped after hitting a wall nearby. The gunman, who was in the front seat suffered mild injuries on his left arm.

I escaped surprisingly, the chief minister told reporters. I was asleep when the accident happened. Soon, those in his escort vehicle took him to Nattakom Guest House. The right side of the tyre got punctured and this was the reason stated for the accident.

Doctors from the general hospital came to the guest house and examined him in the morning. A police team led by district police chief Sathish Binoy reached the Guest House and collected details of the incident.
