Govt is trying to build a new Kerala, says Pinarayi

GENEVA: The state government is trying to build a new Kerala, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The aim is to create Kerala's eco-friendly rehabilitation affected by the floods, the chief minister said while addressing the World Reconstruction Conference organized by the United Nations in Geneva.

The government has taken the challenge of rebuilding Kerala in a better way. The government is not planning to restore the Kerala seen before floods instead a new Kerala able to cope with future ecological disasters would be rebuild.

Kerala has not faced any strong natural disasters in the past 90 years. However the floods witnessed in August 2018 created a big challenge for the government and the public. Floods claimed the precious lives of 453 people in the state.

Kerala faced the floods with determination and the intervention of fishermen in a time bound manner helped in saving the lives of many, he added.
