State to control movements of gas/oil tankers


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Secretary K Jayakumar will hold a meeting of top officials of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Railways and Port to discuss the issue of reducing number of oil and gas tankers plying through the roads in the state.

Briefing on Cabinet decisions here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said distribution and movements of highly inflammable materials should be done in a scientific manner by the oil and gas companies to reduce accidents.

Discussion to implement roll-on-roll-off service through trains would also be taken up, he added. The Indian Oil Corporation would be instructed to start the work of the Kochi Input terminal within a month, he said, adding 40 acres have been handed over to IOC at Puthu Vypin for the project.
