NEW DELHI: Giving a new lease of life to Aranmula airport project, the expert committee of Union Forest and Environment ministry has given the nod to conduct the environment impact study on Aranmula airport project once again. The committee’s decision came after Project promoters KGS group gave an application for the same.
Earlier the project had obtained environmental clearance but it was cancelled by Chennai bench of National Green Tribunal following a petition filed by Aranmula Paithrika Grama Samrakshana Samithy. This was upheld by the Supreme Court later. KGS group submitted a new application on April 13.
The committee totally rejected the argument that that the project site is unsuitable for the project. After the study, the KGS will have to approach the ministry again. Earlier the Green Tribunal had declined sanction, pointing out that the Enviro Care India Pvt Lts that conducted the study didn’t have sufficient qualification to conduct the study.
