KOCHI: Kerala today witnessed a severe shortage of LPG cooking gases as the LPG strike continued in Udyamperoor and Paripally LPG plants. Housekeeping-loading workers of Kochi-Udayampur LPG bottling plant of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), in support of their various demands and truck owners, in connection with the renewal of contract agreement, had been on strike for the past several days.
As the strike intensified in the two plants, the supply of LPG got affected in many parts of the State. In the current circumstances, strikers were again called for talks on Monday.
As the indefinite strike called by workers at Udayanmpur entered the fifth day, the supply of the cylinder got affected in eight districts. The strike started last Thursday under joint action council. The third round of talks held in Nettoor also failed
The strike is being held under the aegis of CITU,INTUC and IOCEU and their demand include renewing the service-wage agreement that expires on January 31 and granting temporary relief of Rs 10000 each to workers.
