THIRUVANANHTHPURAM: Strong summer rains pounded Thiruvananthapuram district on Tuesday evening, entailing heavy damages to properties and vegetation. According to reports, it rained continuously for about five years so that low-lying areas witnessed flooding.
Meanwhile, District Collector has issued high alert across the district. Taluk-Village officers have been asked to report for duty.
Tuesday evening’s heavy thunder and lightning snuffed out the life of a Kunnumkuzhi youth, besides two others. Most roads including the ones which had been dug up for various maintenance work remained inundated for hours. Railway services were also affected as the railway tracks were submerged in flooding water. Even water seeped into records room in the Secretariat.
The Met department has informed that strong rain would continue for the next two days.
