THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF convenor P P Thankachan's revelation that UDF partners RSP and Janata Dal had been under secret surveillance of the police is turning controversial.
The information is that Special Crime branch had been snooping on certain MLAs in the UDF including ministers in the wake of the reports that LDF tried to snip off five MLAs from the UDF in order to sabotage the government. Even LDF plans to offer CM's post to Minister Mani was known through phone tapping, it is reported.
Thankachan had said that Special branch was formed itself to know the motives of the UDF partners and such arrangements were necessary to preempt moves to torpedo the government.
As the statement became controversial, Thankachan came out with the clarification that his statements were misquoted.
