Govt has won main cases under AG, says Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government had won all main cases after K Dandapani assumed power as advocate general, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The government has full faith in the AG and do not agree with the high court statement. The chief minister said this while replying to the notice for the adjournment motion seeking discussion on the criticism against the AG.
The government has full faith in the office of the advocate general. It has been functioning efficiently and that is why I am justifying the AG. The chief minister indirectly criticized high court judge Alexander Thomas for levelling the criticism.  One should not forget the glory and responsibility of the post availed, the chief minister added. Following chief minister’s reply, the speaker denied permission for the motion and the opposition staged a walk out.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said the high court’s observation is a slap on the face of the Chandy government.
Mathew T Thomas, who sought permission for the motion, said the criticism against the AG is serious. What is the relation between the chief minister and the AG outside constitution, asked Thomas?
