KOCHI: The Kerala High Court came down heavily at the functioning of
the office of the Advocate General. Errors were noticed from the side of
government advocates in conducting cases, the court observed. The
court made the statement while considering pleas in connection with
Operation Kubera.
Though there are 120 government counsels, the manner in conducting government cases is not effective. Efficient government pleaders are not been appointed. Many of the government advocates are nominees of abkaris. One should study from Tamil Nadu the functioning of the AG office, the court advised.
The court harshly criticized Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for criticizing the attorney general, who appeared in the Supreme Court in the bar case. He should try to make effective the office of the AG in the state. If the government cannot do it, then hand it over to private advocates, directed the court.
Meantime, Chief Minister said the functioning of the AG office is effective. I have full faith in the functioning of the office. However, the chief minister reiterated his stand and criticised him for appearing in the Supreme Court against the liquor policy of the state.
