KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the government is not against raising pension age of State government employees and teachers.
“But in the present circumstances, no government can raise the pension age, let alone our government,” said Chandy, who was making the inaugural address at the State conference of police officers’ association in Aluva.
The chief minister said that demand for raising the pension had come up from different quarters. “I have no objection on it… If the pension age is raised, only 25000 job opportunities will be lost every year but 25 lakh youths are against this proposal. We can’t overlook their sentiments. A decision can be taken only after considering their opinion, also.
“If the pension age is increased, the government will be able to create lakhs of employment opportunities by introducing many projects. But for that, there should be political consensus and cooperation from youth organisations,” he added.
