THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Giving a spurt to election fever in the State, the State Election Commission has announced the election dates for local self-governing body polls in the State. The election will be held on November 2 and 5.
Seven districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasardgod and Kannur will go to polls on November 2 while Kottayam, Pathanamtitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad will go to polls on November 5.
The votes will be counted on November 7.
Election commissioner N Sasidharan said at a press conference that with the announcement of election dates, the model code of conduct has come into existence. The Commission has requested the government and all candidates to cooperative with the code of conduct. “From now on till the election day, parties and candidates cannot conduct inaugural functions and make official announcements. This is for the first time that voter list with photos of candidates are being used for local body election. There won’t be NOTA (None of the above) option,” he said.
The election notification will be released on October 7. Nominations can be submitted till October 14. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 15.
The candidates can withdraw the nomination till October 17.
