Deputy Speaker’s post UDF meeting today

Wednesday, June 22, 2011: Final decision on the Deputy Speaker’s post and the Chief whip post will be taken at the United Democratic Front (UDF) meeting which will be held here today.
Meanwhile the UDF meet will also discuss the Indian Union Muslim League’s demand for an additional cabinet berth in the Oommen Chandy cabinet.
Though the Congress leadership had repeatedly stated that there would be only 20 Ministers in the cabinet and there was no question of increasing, the IUML, the second largest constituent in the UDF had named their fifth minister to the post of Parliamentary affairs, triggering confusion among the UDF camp.
Kerala Congress (Mani) group had also demanded one more ministerial berth following the amalgamation of Kerala Congress (J) with their party.
Since both the IUML and the Kerala Congress(M) stuck on their demands, the issue was still with the Congress remained unresolved.
Meanwhile, the IUML had stated that the Congress had offered them the fifth ministership and they expressed hope that the Congress leadership would keep their word.
