South Indian superstar Rajinikanth, who has been undergoing treatment in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre in Singapore, was discharged on Wednesday. He was admitted in the hospital late last month due to respiratory problems.
The actor's son-in-law and actor Dhanush tweeted: "Superstar discharged from hospital. He has recovered completely and taking rest. Soon national award celebrations :) god bless." The actor is expected to return India in July.
Meanwhile, a press release from the Tamil Nadu government said that Rajinikanth greeted Chief Minister Jayalalithaa over phone on her assuming office.
"The 61-year-old actor greeted Jayalalithaa, saying the state had been 'saved' after she won the April 13 polls by a massive mandate against DMK, thus becoming chief minister for the third time," it said. Jayalalithaa expressed happiness over his recovery and wanted him to come back to Chennai at the earliest, the release added.
