June 25, 2011: As a protest against the increase in diesel prices the Kerala private bus operators will go on a state-wide token strike on Wednesday. This was announced by the Private bus operators’ co-ordination committee after a meeting held here today.The committee has also urged the State government to take a favourable stand for revising the bus fares. The Committee said that they will launch an indefinite strike if their demands are not met at the earliest.
The central government had yesterday approved a price hike for diesel, LPG and kerosene. Diesel prices will increase by Rs. 3 a litre, and LPG would cost Rs. 50 more per cylinder. The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), headed by Finance Minister Pranbab Mukherjee, met on Friday evening and sanctioned the new prices.
