P.C. George appointed as Chief Whip

Saturday, June 25, 2011: The Kerala Congress (M) has nominated its vice-president P.C. George for the post of Government Chief Whip with Cabinet rank.
This was informed by Kerala Congress (M) chairman K.M. Mani at a press conference here on Friday. Mani said he had informed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is also Leader of the House, of the party’s decision. Chandy will get in touch with the Speaker for initiating further proceedings in the matter.
The Kerala Congress (M) announced its candidate after the ruling United Democratic Front concluded its discussion on sharing of legislative positions on Wednesday. George has been an active member of the Assembly in all the terms that he had been an MLA. He won the Poonjar seat in 1996 on the Kerala Congress (J) ticket and was re-elected in 2001 on the same party ticket.
By 2006, he had parted ways with P.J. Joseph to float his own Kerala Congress (Secular). Midway through the term of the last Assembly, he merged his party with the Kerala Congress(M) to assume office as its vice-president.
