It’s not bar owners’ but people’s interest that should be protected: Sudheeran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  KPCC president V M Sudheeran has said that it is people’s interest that should be protected and not that of bar owners.

“My stand against bars is not to enhance my image and I’m sticking to my stand that the government need not renew the licences of 418 bars. Even before I became the KPCC president, I had the same view. The government should also check whether the existing bars do have the required credentials,” said Sudheeran.

He said the liquor ban should be implemented in phases and “liquor-free Kerala is not a far cry”. “For the past several years things were happening according to liquor lobby’s wishes and from now onwards the situation won’t be the same. In the bar agitation lots of lobbying is happening,” he added.
