KOCHI: The Kerala high court has said that the government is taking a step-motherly attitude towards Beverages Corporation outlets.
Justice Alexander Thomas said that the government was keen on issuing licence to bars instead of renovating them.
The court’s criticism came when it was considering a petition filed by Beverages Corporation, questioning the Panchayat decision to deny licences to a retail liquor outlet at Bharanikkavu in Kollam.
The court also pulled up the government for not responding to its suggestion to appoint a commission to deal with the improvement of bars.
The court asked the government why it couldn’t follow the Delhi model for improving Beverages corporation outlets, when it had developed Kochi Metro Rail on the lines of Delhi Metro.
The petition will be taken up again on May 23.
