Low pressure area over Kerala, heavy rains to continue till tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Meteorological department has informed that for the next 24 hours, heavy rains will continue in areas from Thiruvananthapuram to Kanyakumari as a low pressure area has formed over Kerala.

The rains will be accompanied by flash floods, strong winds, thunder and lightning. Since the low pressure area is concentrated over coastal areas, there is possibility for heavy rains in Southern districts.

District Collector Biju Prabhakar has asked the people to be alert as strong winds may also follow heavy rains. Avoid standing under trees in groups and fishermen daring to venture out in the seas should be extra cautious.

Disaster management teams have convened meetings to evaluate the situation. The officials said rescue teams are prepared to face any eventuality.

From Tuesday morning, Thiruvananthapuram district has been receiving copious rains. In several places, including Edappazhinji, trees were uprooted.
