Election reunites candidate wife, husband

THODUPUZHA: There is time for everything, goes an old saying. A block panchayat member and her husband who were living separated for the past one year was persuaded to unite by the activists of a political party. When the couple got back their family life, what the party got was a populist candidate.

The incident happened at a Panchayat in Idukki. Congress workers were in search of a strong candidate for the panchayat and their search ended when they met the woman block panchayat member. But she said she could not contest the election as she was lively separated from her estranged husband. The party workers then insisted on her contesting the election.

The workers even postponed seat-sharing talks in an effort to unify them. They held a number of counselling sessions for each of them separately  and both of them together. At last, the workers succeeded in their mission. Thus the party got a good candidate and the candidate got back her husband.
