ADIMALY: Three adivasi women including a pregnant lady were electrocuted while they were returning after collecting logs from the forests. Another woman along with her one-year-old baby escaped with injuries.
The dead has been identified as Salomi Kunjumon (28), Yashoda Thankachan (20) and Rajathi Mannavan (28). Salomi was pregnant. Vanitha Shashi (24) and her baby were the first injured.
The incident happened this afternoon at the forest area of Chikkanamkudi near Mangulam coming under the Malayatoor forest division. The one-year-old baby fell down after coming in touch with a stay wire of the 11 kv line going that way. The other women were electrocuted when they came to the rescue of the baby. The three women died on the spot itself.
The area was wet following rains and the line was covered with the overgrown forests. The power supply to the adivasi colony is through this forest. The bodies of the dead have been kept at the Adimali taluk hospital.
