Development activities behind UDF's success: Chandy

KALPATTA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said the reason for the UDF’s poll victories (by-election, assembly election) ever since it came to power is its various development activities taken up sincerely.

Chandy was speaking at UDF election meet at Kalpatta.

“The UDF government which came to power with the majority of just two MLAs could govern till this date just because of the support of the people. Despite allegations, there have been no issues within the UDF and this was proved by various elections held during its tenure,” he said, adding, “the trend would also continue in the Panchayat election”.

Taking a dig at Modi government and its national glamour, Chandy said BJP’s attempt to influence the people in Kerala with the support of the Centre would go in vain as Modi had not kept his promises. Kerala had always stood for secularism and hence the State would crush BJP’s communal face.

Regarding the allegation that UDF is the agent of private school-college managements, Chandy said, of the total 26 arts and science colleges allotted in the State, 23 are government colleges, which also include the one in Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s Thalassery constituency. The rest three aided colleges had been allotted to SC/ST classes.

“Only Congress can compete with BJP. Incidentally, the CPM has always backed the BJP; CPM has supported BJP to help Jana Sangh (during emergency) and VP Singh come to power. All formalities regarding Churambadal Road and Wayanad Medical College are complete and their works will be completed soon after the election,” he said, adding that the Congress had spent 10 times more than the LDF for the benefit of Panchayats.
