Local body poll is semi-final: Antony

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: AICC working committee member and senior Congress leader A K Antony has likened local body election to the semi-final of the Assembly election. The BJP would be expelled in the semi-final and in the finals, the real fight will be between the UDF and LDF.

Antony was speaking to media persons at a press conference here.

“UDF will continue its governance and circumstances are conducive for that. The government has excelled in all fields and in the maintenance of law and order situation, Kerala is in the first place among Indian states. The government has been implementing people-friendly programmes and projects,” he said.

He said there is no differences of opinion over who would lead the party in the Assembly election. The discussions about the chief ministerial candidate was untimely. He also dismissed the reports that Congress-League relationship had been strained.
Antony said: “People in the North India are living under constant threat. It is the BJP and Sangh Parivar organisations that decide what to eat and what to wear. The nation is moving towards a dangerous situation. Modi’s last year rule was an embarrassment. Moreover, he announced his first year’s achievement from RSS headquarters.”

Anotny said the party was open to any kind of investigation into Swami Saswathikananda’s death. “At that time the probe team had come to the conclusion that it was a case of drowning. Notwithstanding this, it is better to clear all doubts,” he added.
