No leadership dispute in Congress, says Chandy

KOZHIKODE: There has never been a dispute over the leadership in the congress, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Addressing a face to face programme at the Kozhikode Press Club, he said a decision on who will lead the congress in the next assembly polls will be taken by the high command and the MLAs.

The congress has a strong leadership. The leadership issue has never been a subject of dispute in the party and it will be like that again. The congress is a party with a democratic behavior. Chandy said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran himself has clarified on his statement that the former will lead the next assembly polls. I have nothing more to say on that, he said.

Chandy welcomed CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement that Muslim League is not a communal party. I am happy that Pinarayi has accepted it after a delay. The cordial race between the CPM and the CPI is not seen between the congress and the league in Malappuram, he said.

Chandy said there is no relationship between the BJP and the Congress. I am serving as an MLA for the past 45 years. I don’t know that Congress has tried to make an alliance with the BJP even once. Meantime, the people of the state knows that Pinarayi Vijayan had tried to make an alliance with the BJP. The alliance between the congress, BJP and the League were made to insult K Karunakaran, he said.

I held talks with the bishops in connection with the Kasturirangan issue. The bishops had given a memorandum on it earlier. I have informed them not to be anxious on it. The interests of the farmers will be protected fully. I held talks with RMP leader N Venu when he came to submit a memorandum and it was not a secret meeting. I met him along with some others, he said.

Banning beef in Kerala House is incorrect. It is wrong on the part of the police to conduct a raid without permission. Steps will be taken after collecting details on it, he said.
