Govt has right to seek Jacob Thomas' explanation: Chennithala

KOTTAYAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the government has the authority to ask for explanation from DGP Jacob Thomas. “But nobody has questioned his integrity,” he told media persons at Press Club here on Saturday.

Chennithala was responding to questions over the government seeking explanation from Jacob Thomas for talking to media without permission, soon after he took over as Police Housing Construction chief.

“Explanation was sought as per certain official procedures. It was I who had given him top posts. Officials have the obligation to execute government orders. If that is not done, the government will have to follow certain steps,” said Chennithala, who added “IG Tomin Thachankary was not in his good books”.

The home minister said he had received the complaint on Micro Finance corruption from Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and he had handed it over to the home secretary for further action.

To another question, he said discussions had not happened over Congress’ chief ministerial candidate for the next Assembly election.
