HC cancels teachers’ package

KOCHI: Giving a strong blow to the state government, the Kerala High Court Thursday cancelled the teachers’ package brought by the government. The court order pointed that the conditions of the package are against the policies of the ministry of education.

According to government’s package, there will be a teacher for 45 students (1:45) which is against center’s law.  As per the Ministry of Education Act, in UP schools, there should be a teacher for 35 students in UP Schools (1:35) and a teacher for 30 students in LP Schools (1:30), directed the court.

In addition, the court took off the condition that prior approval of the government is needed for appointing teachers in aided schools. The criteria including this is illegal, the court pointed.

The government gave approval for the package in July 2015. All teachers appointed in current permanent posts were assured job security. The court passed the order while considering the pleas of some managements and Meeyannoor SKV LP School, questioning the package
