For UDF, it’s like operation was success but patient died: VS

KOLKATA: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said that the Supreme Court’s verdict endorsing the government’s liquor policy has given the UDF a feeling that “the operation was a success but the patient died”. “It has been proved again that the government’s declaration that the liquor ban will be implemented in a phased manner is a hoax,” he said.

Achuthanandan said that the government had implemented liquor policy without making necessary studies. It didn’t think about the inconvenience the policy brought to the bar workers. “The government has ruined the life of thousands of bar workers by closing down bars. It still now has no plans for their rehabilitation. The policy has helped only in increasing the length of queues in front of Beverages outlets. All this has only underscored the LDF policy that it is abstinence rather ban that would be practical in the case of alcohol consumption,” VS said.
