Cheriyan Philip regrets for Karunakaran’s resignation in 1995

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cherian Philip, Left Front fellow traveler regrets for being part of the game which led to the resignation of K Karunakaran from the chief ministerial post. He expressed regret in a Facebook post on the leader’s fifth death anniversary. He also posted a picture of him along with the leader.

I openly regret for being part of the heinous act to subvert the leader from the post. The post says the incident has been haunting him for the past 20 years and he feels guilty of the act.

Karunakaran was pictured as a spy and traitor by Congress ‘A’ Group as part of group squabbles during 1994-1995. Those who filed a charge sheet to the congress high command against the then chief minister Karunakaran and public meetings held all over the state for his resignation should feel sorry at least now.

He termed as immoral and heinous on the horse trading behind the leader losing majority after seven MLAs were detached from Karunakaran. I had revealed the whole thing to the leader in 1998 and as part of repentance I worked hard for his win in the Lok Sabha polls. Till his death I was very close to him. I bow my head before the memories of the leader, he said in the post.
